What is FirstCare Walk-In Medical Center?
FirstCare Walk-In Medical Center is an urgent care medical center staffed with emergency physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in Highland, New York. Our practitioners are all board-certified and have extensive emergency medicine, family practice, gynecology and pediatric experience. We also practice a wide array of orthopedic, dermatology, gastroenterology, internal medicine, infectious disease and general practice medicine.

Our medical practice offers digital x-ray radiology services, wound and laceration care and repair, physical therapy, treatment of sprains, fractures and broken bones. We treat all the minor emergencies an emergency room or emergency department would treat, such as non-lifethreatening illnesses and injuries, asthma, infections, bronchitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, sore throats, stomach and abdomen pain, headache and back pain.

We have many on-site laboratory services such as pregnancy tests, HIV and Aids tests, EKG/ECG, Strep tests, Flu tests. We give vaccinations such as tetanus and flu vaccines/flu shots. We draw blood to send off to laboratories for most other tests. FirstCare also offers breathing and pulmonary function testing, hearing tests, and respirator fittings needed in occupational medicine and employee/employer related examinations.

If a man, woman or child needs a doctor, we are here to help. We service Highland, New Paltz, Wallkill, Gardiner, Clintondale, Rifton, Rosendale, Marlboro, Milton, Kingston, Poughkeepsie, Port Ewen, Esopus, Newburgh, Hudson Valley, Ulster County, Dutchess County New York and the surrounding areas.

What is Urgent Care?
FirstCare provides treatment for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries that occur on a day-to-day basis. Urgent care is a convenient alternative when you need immediate care and are unable to see your regular doctor and don’t want to wait in an emergency room. Just walk in and receive care when you need it most in a warm, patient-friendly atmosphere.

Who will care for me?
FirstCare is staffed with experienced physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Our center is equipped with digital x-ray and a variety of laboratory services. On-site pharmacy services are also available.

How long will I have to wait?
Patients are generally treated on a first-come first-served basis. Every attempt will be made to see you in a prompt manner. Wait times are based on the number of people seeking care and the seriousness of these illnesses. We are dedicated to attending to your needs as soon as possible. We try to keep our wait times to under twenty minutes.

What happens after I leave FirstCare?
You will be advised about all follow-up procedures and notified of any abnormal results. We will work closely with you to ensure that all of the appropriate records are transferred to your local physician.

We will facilitate transfer and acceptance to an emergency room or admission to a hospital should you require these services.

What other services do you offer at FirstCare?
FirstCare has a full-service Family Practice and physical therapy practice in our building. Dr. Weinman provides cosmetic dermatology and laser skin services on-site. There are also Cardiology and Digestive Disease specialists who come to our facility weekly for consultations.

What do I need to bring with me to my visit?
Your insurance card or other payment method, identification, and a list of prescribed and/or over-the-counter medications that you are currently taking.

What if I don’t have health insurance?
FirstCare accepts local checks, mastercard and visa and cash payments. We are approximately 70% less expensive than a comparable emergency department visit.

When is FirstCare open?
FirstCare Walk-In Medical Center is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years day. We close early on some holidays. We also close for excessive snow days. FirstCare has a generator so we can be open during power outages. Our office hours are weekdays 8am-7pm and weekends 10am-4pm. No appointment is needed in our urgent care except for physicals.
