What is holistic medicine? “It is a form of healing that considers the whole person — body, mind, spirit, and emotions — in the quest for optimal health and wellness. According to the holistic medicine philosophy, one can achieve optimal health — the primary goal of holistic medicine practice — by gaining proper balance in life.” according to an article on webmd.com.

What are holistic medical treatments?

Herbal and botanical options to prescription medications. There are natural options for conditions such as high cholesterol and respiratory infections.

Acupuncture: the use of needles or hand pressure to pinpoint areas of the body to block pain, stimulate restorative energy and release natural chemicals. It may also relieve knee pain, osteoarthritis pain and nausea and/or vomiting from chemotherapy.

Chiropractic Care: adjusting the spine with a controlled force; may relieve pinched nerves or impingement of the nerves in the spine; can also help in healing neck and jaw pain.

Massage: There are 3 types: Swedish Massage- kneading and massaging the skin and muscles with deep, circular motion; Shiatsu- applied pressure to certain parts of the body using hands and/or fingers; Deep Tissue- deep pressure using hands and fingers, but also other parts such as elbows and knees.

Meditation: The use of deep, steady breathing and/or chanting mantras to get to, and maintain a state of relaxation.

Yoga: Using breathing techniques and posture to aid in relaxing the body.
