Suboxone contains a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is an opioid medication which fills receptor for narcotics in the brain, and Naloxone blocks the addictive effects of opioid medication, including pain relief or feelings of well-being that can lead to opioid abuse. Suboxone is used to treat narcotic (opiate) addiction.
Suboxone treatment is very effective in blocking the cravings that opioid addicted patients have, including cravings and addiction to painkiller medications and street drugs such as heroin.
