Let’s Take A Look At Laser Hair Removal
Ugh, not that time again. Didn’t I just shave yesterday? If you are anything like me, shaving can be a nuisance. I am one of the “lucky” to have course, dark body hair. I can shave in the morning, and end of with a 5 o’clock shadow by afternoon. The struggle is real, lol. All joking aside; if this sounds like you, or maybe you just want to remove any unwanted hair, why not look into laser hair removal?
Essence MediSpa at FirstCare Medical Center has been doing laser hair removal since 2002.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a procedure that utilizes lasers to remove unwanted body hair. The highly concentrated light is directed at the hair follicles and, by emitting pulsing light, destroys the hair.
What Areas Can I Treat?
You can treat most anywhere on your body. The most common areas are faces, legs, underarms, and bikini area. There are many people who do their upper lip, back and chest as well. Laser hair removal is not limited to just these areas, your dermatologist can provide you with a full list of options.
Is There Preparation?
Yes. Laser hair removal is a medical procedure and requires certain steps to be followed beforehand. Because the laser targets the root of the hair, you should not wax or pluck 4 weeks prior to your appointment. Tanning, whether sun, spray, or beds, is also not recommended. If you must be exposed to the sun, make sure to wear sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater.
What Should I Expect?
What you should expect will depend on the area(s) that you are treating. The laser typically treats an area the size of a quarter every second. So, if you are having your upper lip done, it will only take a few seconds, but a leg(s), can take up to 20 minutes. As far as pain goes, most patients describe the feeling as a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Most clients feel the discomfort is minimal with the laser we use at Essence MediSpa in FirstCare Medical Center.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
How many treatments you need will depend on the color and thickness of your hair, the area you are treating, and the color of your skin. Most clients need between 3 and 6 treatments.
What About Recovery, Risk?
The good news is that there is no downtime with laser hair removal! Your skin may feel and look like a mild sunburn for a few days following the procedure.
